Under Frustration is a three-volume compilation project by Tunisian collective Arabstazy, establishing a picture of the contemporary electronic music scene in the Arab World. This musical journey stands for the diversity of this scene, and deconstructs the occidental perceptions that sees the Arab World as a culturally united and homogeneous entity.
It is a manifesto for a burgeoning movement that is aware of its representations, immersing its roots into the future, while highlighting and transmuting its traditions. It is the assessment of how diverse, shattered and intricate the Arab World actually is; the cement of an independent Arabic underground electronic scene. A scene that doesn’t need common aesthetics nor similar codes to build a sense of belonging, that relies on the similarities found in the constant struggle from which the creative process arise.
In the frame of political, social and religious dictatorships, this is a creative process that is born under frustration. Among all who experience it, some will cope through artistic expression. We decided to relate to this frustration as an inextinguishable source of inspiration.

Allah Be Praised - this is stunning.
The way these tracks develop their almost tidal pulses of undulating vocal loops borders on hypnotic.
My only criticism is the length of the songs; I wish they were twice as long!
This is true world music: a blend of style and sound that speaks of place, yet defies convention. Some of the best beats you'll hear anywhere, set to sampled chants and other highly evocative sounds.
I hope a full, double-length LP of music of this calibre is in the pipeline. Michael Mueller

Remembrance - wow... each part. Utterly, utterly perfect. Inspiring drums...
Strings Of Light pulls you in from the start, letting you know you're in for a great trip.
Joint 17 is another great track, smooth and funky and exploring around the edges of the groove.
Black Focus is a great opener and Yo Chavez is really nice.
Lowrider... mmm, the theme is bit retro for me, which is fitting - and brilliant playing, of course.
